First produced by the Hayman family for the British Royal Navy in 1863, the classic Navy Strength gin follows the original family recipe. In the nineteenth century, England boasted the largest naval fleet in the world. To prevent the gin on board from moistening the gunpowder and rendering it unusable, the 'navy strength' versions were produced at a higher strength. When the Royal Navy asked for a Navy Strength Gin that retained the balanced note characteristics of the English style, the Hayman family responded with Royal Dock Gin, a recipe that is still followed today.
On the palate the notes of juniper clearly dominate, combined with citrus peel and peppery notes of coriander. In the finish the overwhelming and persistent notes of pepper and spices emerge, but it is then once again the juniper that makes its way. Hayman's Royal Dock Gin is not only particularly suitable for blending thanks to its classic and intense flavors, but it is also recommended as an accompaniment to Indian cuisine as its robust taste holds its own against traditional Indian spices.
